Secrets Unlocked: There’s Water On the Moon!
Are scientists ever surprised or excited? The answer is yes. On November 13th, NASA announced the discovery of water on the dark side of the moon. This is big. What does it mean? Well, we now have the possibility of a moon base to explore other planetary bodies. Where did it come from? This question remains to be answered. According to the project’s principle investigator Anthony Colaprete:
“The full understanding of the LCROSS data may take some time. The data is that rich,” said Colaprete. “Along with the water in Cabeus, there are are hints of other intriguing substances. The permanently shadowed regions of the moon are truly cold traps, collecting and preserving material over billions of years.”
Our future in space exploration could benefit from this finding. Let’s hope the rest of the population can get on board. Read more about the meaning of such a profound discovery at the International Space Fellowship. There’s no water on my new (old) moon globe, but I’m holding my breath for an extensive analysis.
P.S. Today is the anniversary launch date of Apollo 12!
